A Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) is relatively easy to obtain from a Thai Embassy/Consulate, especially in your home country.

A Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) obtained only from a Thai Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence is valid for 6 months and allows multiple entries during that time.

For specific requirements and fees, you should contact the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you plan to obtain the visa (each will have their own requirements). The category shown on the Visa will be “TR.”

In several countries, Thailand has Honorary Consuls who are citizens of that country. They have the authority to issue SETVs. The ThaiEmbassy.org website has a listing of Thai Embassies and Consulates with a link to their website if one is available.

What do I need to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa?

Visa applicants need to apply online for the eVisa. In order to access online visa application, please go to https://thaievisa.go.th/Home. You will need the documents required by the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the country you designate for the eVisa application to go to. 

Required Documents to be uploaded: (Please check relevant embassy/consulate's website for other specifically documents they require)

1. Biodata page of Passport or Travel Document
2. Photograph taken within the last six months
3. Document indicating current location
4. Travel booking confirmation
5. Proof of accommodation in Thailand, e.g. Accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand

How long do I have to enter Thailand, how long may I stay, and can it be extended?

Single Entry Tourist Visas are usually valid for entry for 3 months from date of issue. Upon entry within that 3 month period, the holder will be permitted to stay for 60 days (includes the day of arrival). For example, if you arrive the day before the Visa expires, you will still receive a 60 day permission to stay.  The Immigration Officer will stamp "used" on the Visa.

A one time application for an extension of 30 days can be made at a Thai Immigration Office.  This can be done before the admitted until date shown on the entry stamp as the 30 days are added to the initial period.  The fee is 1,900 baht.

In the past, visas were a sticker which the applicant placed in his or her passport. The e-visa will be sent to you by email. This email should be printed out and retained to show airlines at time of departure and/or to Immigration upon arrival in Thailand. A copy is also required by the immigration bureau if and when a foreigner applies for an extension of stay.
