What are the requirements for the category O-X Visa?

Applicant must be at least 50 years of age and  have one of the financial resources that meet one of the following:

• Have 3,000,000 million baht on deposit in a Thai bank which is required to remain on deposit for one year from issuance of the Visa
• Have 1,800,000 baht on deposit in a Thai bank and annual income of 1,200,000 baht (which must increase the bank deposit to 3,000,000 baht within one year from Visa issuance).
• After the first year from Visa issuance, the amount on deposit in a Thai bank must be not be less than 1,500,000 baht.

Applicant must also furnish a Medical Certificate stating they are free of certain diseases/conditions and a Police Report that the applicant has no criminal record.

Applicant must be medically insured with the following coverage: Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 baht, and Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than  400,000 baht. The insurance for obtaining the Visa must be from a Thai company listed on the Thailand General Insurance Association (TGIA) website.

What are the requirements to continue to stay in Thailand for the five year period permitted by the O-X Visa?

• The sum of money in the bank account is less than 3 million Baht at the end of the first year of stay period in Thailand.

• The sum of money in the bank account is less than 1.5 million Baht at the end of the second year of stay period in Thailand, and/or the money in said account was spent outside Thailand.
• Foreigner does not have health insurance in the amounts stipulated under requirements to obtain the Visa.
• Foreigner poses a threat to peace and security of Thailand. Foreigner works without permission.

Can my spouse or dependent children also enter Thailand?

Yes. The applicant's spouse or dependent children (under 20 years of age) may apply for a Non-Immigrant "O" Visa and receive a 90 day permission to stay upon entry into Thailand. They will then need to go to Thai Immigration and apply for a dependent extension of stay which will correspond to their spouse/parent's category O-X permission to stay. No additional financial resources  are required for this type extension. The application will be need to be submitted with the application for the category O-X Visa along with marriage license for spouse and/or birth certificate(s) children.

What is required to renew for the second  5 years?

We have not received any reports from an O-X Visa holder regarding renewing the O-X Visa for another 5 year term. This may be to there being very few retirees applying for the category O-X Visa since it provides no additional benefits to that of the category O-A Visa, but requires substantially more financial resources to qualify.

Further, to our knowledge, Thai Immigration has not issued specific rules regarding renewing the Visa for another 5 years.
