If you are the holder of a Non-Immigrant Visa, are age 50 or older, and meet financial requirements, you may extend your permitted stay by one year and renew the extension annually.

Thailand also permits a retiree's spouse to obtain an extension for the same period as that granted to the retiree.

The parents over the age of 50 or children not over the age of 20 of the retiree or retiree's spouse can also obtain an extension for the same period as that granted to the retiree.

These dependents must also be the holder of a Non-Immigrant Visa (usually Category "O") obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate outside of Thailand.

Financial Requirements for Extension by Retiree

Documents Required for the Retiree

The following documents will need to be submitted to the Thai Immigration Office serving your geographical area of residence - Chonburi (Pattaya) requires one of each - other Immigration offices may require more:

1. Form TM.7 Application for Extension of Stay in the Kingdom
2. Photo (4 x 6 cm)
   
3. Photocopy Form TM.6 Departure Card (received upon arrival)*
4. Photocopy of Passport Pages showing showing - Identity/Photo, Non-Immigrant Visa, & Latest Permission to Stay Stamp
5. Support for meeting financial requirements - this may differ between Immigration Offices in Thailand
6. Proof of Residence - this may differ between Immigration Offices in Thailand.
7. Evidence that a TM.30 Address report is on file
8. Acknowledgement of penalties for overstay. Click here for document.
9. Completed Acknowledgment of responsibility to report changes in status. Click here for document.
10. If the visa used for entry into Thailand was  Category O-A, proof of health insurance from a Thai company listed on the TGIA website. Most Immigration Offices including Chonburi (Pattaya) require the period to coincide with the extension of stay, i.e. one year coverage beginning on the renewal date (if renewal date begins on October 1, 2020,  insurance cover must begin on October 1, 2020).

* As of June 2022, Thailand has suspended issuance of the TM.6 Card for those arriving at airports. If you arrived after that date, no TM.6 card is required.

Note: Although the issuance of a Category O-A Visa  by a Thai Embassy/Consulate allows the use of a non-Thai company, currently Thai Immigration Rules for extensions of stay require it be from a Thai company listed on the TGIA website to obtain an extension of the permitted stay.

Documents Required for spouse of the Retiree 

Documents 1 through 4 listed above and the following:

• Copy of the Retiree's passport pages showing identity/photo, Non-Immigrant Visa, Latest Permission to Stay Stamp showing their extension date.

Documents Required for the child of Retiree or Retiree's spouse

Documents listed above 1 through 4 and the following:

• Copy of the Retiree's passport pages showing identity/photo, Non-Immigrant Visa, Latest Permission to Stay Stamp showing their extension date.

• Proof of relationship, usually such as Birth Certificate or adoption registration or other proof from governmental agency of the relationship.
  

Documents Required for the parents of Retiree

Documents listed above 1 through 4 and the following:

• Copy of the Retiree's passport pages showing identity/photo, Non-Immigrant Visa, Latest Permission to Stay Stamp showing their extension date.
