Dr. Bruce Veldhuisen in his Words & Music presentation will be talking about music possibilities in Pattaya. The talk highlights how accessible singing can be, and how Pattaya provides a uniquely supportive environment for anyone interested in performing.

He will share his personal journey back into singing after nearly 50 years away from it. Having sung in high school choirs, including occasional solos, he never expected to return to music later in life.  Now semi-retired and living in Jomtien/Pattaya, he enjoys the local lifestyle and has developed a strong interest in music, regularly singing and performing in venues around the city using the stage name “Bruce Veld.”

This came about after spending time in Pattaya and regularly visiting venues with live Filipino bands, he realized there were opportunities to get up and sing a few familiar songs. Starting with simple, well-known choices like Wonderful Tonight, he gradually rebuilt his confidence and began performing more regularly.

Bruce is originally from the United States but has spent most of his adult life living overseas. After leaving the U.S. in 1990, he lived in Hong Kong for six years and has now been based in Thailand for over 30 years. Much of his career has been in higher education, working in program development and international education.

As his interest grew, he expanded his repertoire to include classics such as Sinatra songs, inspired in part by local performers like Jayson. Realizing that singing one song a night wasn’t enough to truly improve, he made a conscious effort to find opportunities to perform more regularly.

He also began using technology to customize backing tracks and adjust song keys to better suit his voice, making it easier to explore a wider range of material. Along the way, he took a few lessons with his friend Yves Baron, further developing his skills.

Today, he performs weekly with his friends Marina and Arty. Click here for his previous appearance before the Club with Marina and Arty.
