Antarctica has long been a dream destination for John Horrigan and his wife Nida. Last year, while visiting his first grandchild, John Horrigan finally decided to stop procrastinating and book an expedition cruise with G‑Adventures. John will share the wonder of that experience. In his presentation you will see photos of a lot of ice and snow and maybe some penguins too. His journey began in Ushuaia, Argentina — the southernmost city in the world — where 120 passengers and roughly 80 crew including experienced guides set off across the infamous Drake Passage. For about a week, they explored the icy wilderness of the Antarctic Peninsula. John and his fellow travelers experienced daily scientific lectures, wildlife briefings, and twice‑daily landings by zodiac boat whenever weather and ice conditions allowed. Because every day depended entirely on nature, It was called an exploration because there is just a rough plan of where to go and it is 100% dependent on weather and ice. If the waves or wind are too high, no landings. John is the Club’s Treasurer and is a retired school librarian and teacher union leader from Westport, Connecticut. Today, his focus is on visiting as many new places as possible — and revisiting a few favorites along the way. Over the past year, he and his wife Nida (Siripond) traveled across all seven continents in seven months, completing a remarkable global adventure. |
